The Day of the Jackal
I'm not sure there was really a need for another remake of The Day of the Jackal? Based on the Frederick Forsyth novel from 1971, there have been two films, I'm aware of and both are pretty decent. The series isn't awful either. Eddie Redmayne is excellent as the Jackal. That said, I can't say I feel quite so enthusiastic about Lashana Lynch's character, Bianca Pullman. She seems a bit lost, for want of a better description.I'm sure some will disagree. Idris Elba would, I feel, have been a perfect choice. Oh well.... The series itself is reasonable. There's the usual espionage assassin thriller elements to keep you watching. For anyone who read the book, such as myself and seen the films from 73 and 97, (the latter's a loose adaptation) there are no real surprises to be had. By contrast, for newcomers, this may be a welcome and largely pleasant surprise. In summary, a mostly decent series that's not really adding much that's new but may have enough on offer for those happy to revisit or newcomers, with no prior exposure. Worth a look.
