1. On the skids
An important slot machine salesman has been kidnapped. The police suspect Valérie, his partner, of having organised the kidnapping. Already well-known to the police, her lies only serve to make them even more suspicious.

A father notifies the police that his young daughter has disappeared. She is found soon afterwards in a car park, raped and with serious burns. Franklin makes it a point of honour to find those who did it, but the witnesses are terrorised and refuse to talk.
